The Indian government introduced the National sports Governance
Bill, 2025 in Lok Sabha. The Bill paves the
way for creating a statutory National sports
Board (NSB) empowered to grant and
revoke recognition of sports federations,
including the BCCI. A National sports
Tribunal will fast?track dispute resolution.
Governance reforms include limits on
tenure and age, mandatory athlete and
women representation, codes of ethics,
transparency measures and financial
oversight aligned with international
charters. It aims to professionalize sports
administration ahead of India’s 2036
Olympic ambitions.
